Alternative Breaks – University of Maryland

On February & March, we welcomed a group of 13 students from The University of Maryland to work as volunteer teacher’s aide in the ESOL Program as part of their Alternative Breaks Experience. The purpose of the program is to send students to do volunteer service in local communities before going to the Dominican Republic to help teach elementary and middle school age kids English and other subjects at a rural school.

The Alternative Breaks program engages individuals in short-term service-learning experiences that challenge social, political and economic structures of our global community.
