For over 50 years, the SED Center has provided bilingual education programs for children ages 3 months to 4 years, their families, and adults in the Washington metropolitan area. We help build the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary for our families to navigate an increasingly multilingual, multicultural society. ​

​El plato del bien comer

El plato del bien comer representa los tres grupos de alimentos que debemos consumir diarios, nos orienta en la nutrición balanceada y nos ayuda a estar saludables. El plato del bien comer consta de incluir en nuestra dieta:

Frutas y verduras
  • En el desayuno incluye frutas enteras o rebanadas, por ejemplo, en el tazón de cereal.
  • Entre comidas procura consumir jícama, pepino, zanahorias, manzanas.​
  • Si lo tuyo es hacer postres, puedes hornear pasteles de zanahoria, de manzana, dulce de calabaza, etc.
Alimentos de origen animal
  • Puedes prepararte un tazón de cereal para el desayuno ya que la leche es fuente de calcio y proteina.
  • En las comidas puedes cocinar alimentos que contengan carne, pollo o pescado pues son fuentes de proteína, minerales como le hierro y el zink, vitaminas y complejo B.
Cereales
  • Puedes combinar el desayuno con maíz, avena, trigo.
  • En moderacion, las comidas pueden combinar los alimentos con arroz, tortillas de maíz, papa, etc.
Recomendaciones:
  • Incluye por lo menos, un alimento de cada uno de los tres grupos de alimentos en el desayuno, en la comida y en la cena.
  • Varía los alimentos y dales color. Haz divertidos platillos para los niños del hogar.
  • Recuerda que la cantidad de comida aporta la energía necesaria, y para esto es importante conocer tus porciones dependiendo tu edad, estatura y peso.
  • Consume azúcares y grasas con extrema moderación.
  • Toma al menos 2 litros de agua al día.
  • Realiza al menos 30 minutos de ejercicio al día.

​The dish of good eating 

The dish of good eating represents three food groups that we should eat daily. It orients us on how to sustain a balanced nutrition, helping us to be healthy. The dish of the good eating asks that we include in our diets:

Fruits and vegetables
  • For breakfast, you can include whole fruits or pieces in a bowl of cereal.
  • Between meals, you can eat jicama or cucumber, carrots and apples.
  • If dessert making is your thing, you can make carrot cake, apple cake, or pumpkin pie.
Food from animal sources
  • A bowl of cereal for breakfast should serve as a source of calcium and protein.
  • For lunch, you can cook meals that contain meat, chicken or fish. All good sources of protein, minerals like iron and zink, and vitamin B. 
Cereals
  • You can mix your breakfast with toast or cereal that includes oats and wheat.
  • In moderation, you can combine your meals with rice, corn tortillas, potatoes, etc.​
Recommendations:
  • Include at least one item from each food group during breakfast, lunch and dinner.
  • Combine your dishes to make them funny and colorful for the kids.
  • Remember that the quantity of food should relate to the necessary energy needed for your day, It is important to know your portions depending on  age, weight and height.
  • Eat sugars and fats with extreme moderation.
  • Drink at least eight glasses of water daily.
  • Take on at least 30 minutes of exercise daily.
