For over 50 years, the SED Center has provided bilingual education programs for children ages 3 months to 4 years, their families, and adults in the Washington metropolitan area. We help build the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary for our families to navigate an increasingly multilingual, multicultural society. ​

Nacido el 18 de agosto de 1934 en Carolina, Puerto Rico, Roberto Clemente se convirtió en el primer Hispano en los Estados Unidos que llego a 3.000 hits. Su padre supervisó cortadores de caña de azúcar, y su madre trabajo en servicio de lavandería ademas de manejar una pequeña tienda de comida. Mientras jugo para los Piratas de Pittsburgh, Roberto Clemente fue convocado para el equipo de las estrellas de la Liga Nacional 15 veces, ganó 12 premios de Guante de Oro y tuvo el mayor promedio de bateo de la Liga Nacional durante cuatro años. Ademas, fue el jugador más valioso de la Liga Nacional en 1966 y el jugador más valioso en 1971 de la Serie Mundial. Roberto Clemente tambien devolvió incontables horas y dinero a la comunidad. Galardonado con la Medalla de Oro Congresional, en 1973, por sus destacadas contribuciones atléticas, cívicas, caritativas y humanitarias, Roberto verdaderamente fue un ejemplo Hispano. 

Born on August 18, 1934 in Carolina, Puerto Rico, Roberto Clemente became the first Hispanic in the United States to reach 3,000 hits. His father oversaw sugar-cane cutters, and his mother did laundry and, among other things, ran a small grocery store. While under the Pittsburgh Pirates, Roberto Clemente played on the National League All-Star team 15 times, won 12 Gold Glove Awards, and had the highest National League batting average for four years. He was the National League's Most Valuable Player in 1966 and the World Series Most Valuable Player in 1971. Most notably, Roberto Clemente gave back countless hours and money to the community. Awarded the Congressional Gold Medal by the United States Congress in 1973 for his “outstanding athletic, civic, charitable, and humanitarian contributions, Roberto truly is an exceptional Hispanic role model.
